Kalahari Nostalgia

This nostalgic farm theme was born from our family’s roots and personal history with sewing. Growing up on a farm in the Kalahari with lots of time and a mother who could, from every magazine picture we brought her, design a pattern and bring any dream dress into realisation, the sewing bug is literally in our blood.

My whole family suffers severely from Acute Cluttercollectus with a result that we each have a room dedicated to sewing, that is so FULL of sewing stuff that you still end up sewing  on the kitchen table. And it’s not just my mom and my sisters. The antique lace petticoats and colllars, blowing in the breeze, are from my late uncle Howard’s collection., Who also through his life, collected a veritable museum full of vintage fashion and fabrics.

Our love for fabrics and all things related to sewing is evident in the little details. The bottels of buttons, the thimbles, measuring tapes under glass domes, almost as if they are kept in a time capsule. The lovely gift boxes my sister Lee-Ann made from old dress patterns. The flowers were kept to a minimum and whisper softly about the good old days gone by. It may look like the photos were taken in the Karoo, they were actually also taken at Babylonstoren.
